Rosangela Biavati, 36, died instantly when she was hit by the lightning strike during a swimming trip to popular seaside resort of Guaruja, on Brazil’s Sao Paulo.
Rosangela was seen running towards the sea waving her arms to warn her 11-year-old son to get out of the water before the storm hit.
But seconds later she was hit by the electric bolt as she stepped towards the water’s edge.
Her husband had gone to put their bags in the car after the 13-strong family group had decided to call it a day due to the storm.
Said grieving hubby Leandro Lopes Santos:” The weather started to close in and we decided to leave. I was putting our bags into the car and the kids were on the beach.
“The next minute my wife was lying on the floor. I received a mild shock.”
Rosangela’s brother, Elias Biavati said;” When I saw my sister, she was already lying on the ground and people were trying to revive her by massaging her heart.”
Another sister close by received a black eye from the strike.
Cafe Owner Arionaldo Garrido had decided to take his tables in as he could see the storm building up.
“Several rays had already flashed across the sky and streaked down.
“Suddenly we heard a loud bang and saw several people running. We knew something terrible had happened. It is a real tragedy for the family who have lost a wife and a mother.”
Climatologist Rodolfo Bonafim said lightning bolts were commonplace at the time of year.
“There is a high incidence of lightning because of an increase in heat and humidity.
“It is more concentrated at this time during the summer because the humidity is higher.”
