LOS ANGELES – Arnold Schwarzenegger, the renowned actor and former governor of California, recently expressed his belief that the movie ‘The Terminator’ has “become a reality” due to the rise in artificial intelligence, AI.
At ‘An Evening with Arnold Schwarzenegger‘ event held in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, Schwarzenegger spoke about the 1984 sci-fi film ‘The Terminator’, directed by James Cameron, in which he played the lead role as a cyborg assassin.
He asserted that the movie’s plot regarding the rise of machines and AI was prophetic and reflects current concerns regarding the development of AI.
“Today, everyone is frightened of it, of where this is gonna go,” Schwarzenegger said regarding AI. “And in this movie, in Terminator, we talk about the machines becoming self-aware and they take over.”
He added that in 1984, when the film was released, AI was in its early stages, and the concept was considered a distant future.
However, he believes that over the years, AI has evolved, and the ideas depicted in the movie have become a reality.
He credited James Cameron for his “brilliance” in writing and directing the film, stating, “Now over the course of decades, it has become a reality. So it’s not any more fantasy or kind of futuristic. It is here today. And so this is the extraordinary writing of Jim Cameron.”
Schwarzenegger praised Cameron as an “extraordinary writer” and “unbelievable director.”
In other news, Schwarzenegger revealed that if he were eligible, he would run for the U.S. presidency.
Born in Austria, Schwarzenegger is not a natural-born U.S. citizen, which the U.S. Constitution mandates for presidential candidates.
However, in an episode of ‘Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?’, when asked if he had run for president if not for this requirement, Schwarzenegger responded affirmatively.
Furthermore, it was announced that Netflix has confirmed a second season of Schwarzenegger’s show ‘Fubar’.
