Award winning Nigerian fashion designer Tessy Oliseh-Amaize has raised the bar in fashion design once again with the unveiling of FLOTUS – a mouth-watering collection of designs for women.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja at the unveiling of the collection, Tessy, the creative director of Tesslo Concepts and Fashion Design, graduate of Middlesex University, United Kingdom attributed the inspiration for the collection to diverse cultural experiences garnered across different continents of the world.
“The inspiration for the collection comes from a wide range of experiences and interactions with different cultures and civilizations from Africa to Asia to America and Europe. If you pay close attention, you will also see traces of fashion from the 50s, fashion for corporate women as well as elegant and playful styles for women of all classes and tastes,” Tessy explained
Asked why she christened the collection ‘FLOTUS’, she had something interesting to say.
“I was actually expecting that question. Yes I am a big fan of the first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama and this collection was partly inspired by her bold and elegant sense of style. But FLOTUS by Tesslo Concepts means more,” she said.
“It’s an acronym. It means ‘For Ladies Of Trendy Unconventional Style (FLOTUS)’. This collection is in many ways about women who are bold, daring, powerful, eccentric and adventurous with style. The FLOTUS collection is a creative mix of the conservative and risqué.”
In 2006, Tessy beat 126 other Nigerian fashion designers to emerge winner of the Best Fashion Designer Award at the Nigeria Fashion Show (NFS) in Paris. In the same year, she was nominated for the Future Awards’ Entrepreneur of the Year (Beauty & Style) category.
Herdesigns have been showcased at several fashion shows from Nigeria Fashion Week to Stars on the Runway, Nigeria Model Awards and Encomium Black and White Ball alongside top Nigerian designers like Modela, Zizi Cardow, among others.
