OWERRI, Nigeria — A prominent member of Imo State’s All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council, Capt. Tony Enoch, was tragically killed by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in Oru East Local Government Area of the state, according to local sources.
A source speaking with an online news medium on Thursday, May 11, 2023, revealed that the victim, a retired military officer and close associate of Governor Hope Uzodinma, was targeted and killed while returning from an APC stakeholder meeting.
The incident has heightened tensions in the region, where political unrest has been growing in recent months.
“The assailants ambushed Capt. Enoch near Awomama Technical School in Oru-East. After they killed him, they callously dumped his body in the trunk of his own car,” said the source, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the situation.
The Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer has not been available for comment, and no official statement has been issued regarding the incident.
The lack of response from local authorities has led to increased anxiety and uncertainty among residents of the area.
“It’s a truly sad day for Imo State and the APC family. Capt. Tony Enoch was a dedicated and passionate individual, committed to the betterment of our community,” a member of the APC, who also wished to remain anonymous, told DAILY POST.
“His death is a great loss for all of us, and we call upon the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
