The Taraba STate House of Assembly on Monday, November 24, 2014 confirmed Sanni Danladi, the Deputy Governor of the state as the Acting Governor, barely 72 hours after he was reinstated as Deputy Governor following the Supreme Court’s nullification of his impeachment.
The motion was moved by Joseph Alkinjo, the Majority Leader and seconded by Hon. Aminu Jalingo
Alkinjo cited Section 190 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which allows the house to “mandate His Excellency, the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Sanni Abubakar Danladi, to act as the governor pending when His Excellency, Danbaba Suntai fully recuperates and assumes his functions as the Governor of Taraba State.”
Another member of the house representing Donga Constituency, Istlifanu Gbana said: “This is a legal issue and it is technical, whosoever sat on that sit (Acting Governor) before, did that wrongly. We must go back to the drawing board and make correction.”
