Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State, says his government will take legal actions against the “propagandists” of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who are spreading falsehood”in the northwestern state.
Tambuwal gave the warning in a series of tweets on Monday, April 29, 2019. He was a speaker in the House of Representatives when he decamped from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to become one of the founding members of the All Progressives Congress in 2014. He later ran on the APC platform and won the governorship seat. He defected back to the PDP from the APC in August, 2018.
The governor said the activities of the leaders he failed to name, if left unchecked, would undermine the peace the state is currently enjoying.
“The APC leaders in Sokoto State have formed a habit of spreading falsehood on social media platforms,” Tambuwal, who has just won a 2nd term with a narrow margin, said.
“The Government of Sokoto State will soon begin to take legal action unless the politicians instigating the media propaganda and hate speech desist. Their activities, if left unchecked, will undermine the peace of the state.”
The governor said his administration would not allow propagandists toy with peace in the state.
“Sokoto is a peaceful state. We will no longer allow propagandists to toy with its peaceful coexistence,” he said.
