The Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop hunting those agitating for self-determination in Nigeria.
Afenifere said agitators like Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu were product of the failure of Buhari government to cater for Nigerians.
Jare Ajayi, the spokesman of Afenifere, said Buhari should concentrate on fighting banditry and terrorism, rather than go after Igboho and Kanu.
Reacting to Buhari’s Independence Day broadcast, where he said Kanu and Igboho’s sponsors have been identified, Ajayi said: “Afenifere feels government should concentrate on putting a stop to banditry and terrorism rather than dissipating energy on hunting for those who are advocating for true federalism or self- determination.
“The phenomenon of Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu in terms of desiring their own nations came about as a result of the failure of the Nigerian state to cater adequately for Nigerians.
“If insecurity and social dislocation in the country are brought to an end, the agitation for separate nations will fizzle out.
“The picture painted by President Buhari of Nigeria is at variance with what is on ground.”
Kanu is locked up by the Department of State Services, DSS, over his agitation for Biafra.
Igboho, on his part, is being held by Beninese security agents.
He was arrested in Cotonou while attempting to travel to Germany.
