A Syrian national, Abdullah Mohammed al-Ahmad al-Anzi, was on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 beheaded after he was convicted of trafficking amphetamine pills.
The Saudi Interior Ministry made the announcement of the execution via a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, stating that al-Anzi was beheaded in the northwestern Jawf region.
al-Anzi’s brings to 27, the number of people executed in Saudi Arabia this year, as the Middle-Eastern nation says it’s keen to combat drug trafficking which it sees as “greatly harmful”
Saudi Arabia executed 87 people in 2014 and 78 in 2013, AFP reports.
The country operates a strict version of Islamic Sharia law as rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery and drug trafficking are all punishable by death.
