Former Governor of Bayelsa state Timipre Sylva, on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, withdrew his suit challenging the election of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Bayelsa East Senatorial District.
It would be recalled that Sylva filed a motion requesting that the court disqualify the PDP on the grounds of possession of dual citizenship and irregularities carried out by the PDP’s candidate.
Vanguard reports the Chairman of the Bayelsa state Election Petition Tribunal,Justice Ononeze Madu, on Wednesday, made the announcement of the withdrawal. The tribunal said that it was committed to ensuring justice for the betterment of the citizenry.
Counsel to Chief Sylva, Sydney Ibanichuka said the withdrawal of the petition was for the interest of peace.
He said; “The reason for the withdrawal is best known to the petitioners, but they have agreed to withdraw for the interest of peace in Bayelsa and Nigeria at large,”
On the other hand,counsel to Senator Bruce, Duro Adeyele, SAN, who commended Sylva for withdrawing the suit, added that it was for the best interest of the people.
He sai; “We have gone through pre-hearing and today being July 1, the petition has been withdrawn,”
