The Defence Headquarters on Thursday, November 17, 2016 appointed a new commander to take charge of the military operation, tagged Operation Delta Safe, in the Niger Delta region of southern Nigeria.
Rear Admiral Apochi Suleiman takes over from Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie, who has been reassigned, a statement signed by Kingsley Umoh, a colonel signing on behalf of Rabe Abubakar, the director of Defence Information.
“Until his appointment, Rear Admiral Suleiman was the director development at the Defence Headquarters. Before that, he was the flag officer commanding, Central Naval Command,” the e-mailed statement to The Trent said.
“This change becomes necessary in order to inject new capability to contain the prevailing security threats and provide adequate much needed stability in the region.”
Rear Admiral Suleiman’s appointment takes immediate effect.
