Boko Haram: 2 Female Suicide Bombers Dead, 3 Residents Injured In Maiduguri

Two female suicide bombers in the night of Sunday, December 18, 2016 died when one of them detonated the explosive device on her body to prevent being stopped by policemen at a checkpoint.

Three residence of the community on the outskirts of Maiduguri, where this incident occurred, were injured in the blast.

Victor Isuku, the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, sent a text message on Monday to journalists confirming the incident.

 “At About 20.30 hours yesterday (Sunday), two female suicide bombers were halted to stop for routine check at Geleri village which is about 5km to Muna Garage, an outskirt of Maiduguri,” Isuku revealed.

“One of the suicide bombers detonated IED strapped to her body killing her and her accomplice whose IED vest did not explode. Three residents of the area were however injured.

“The command’s EOD unit rushed to the scene to render the unexploded IED safe. The area has been secured and normalcy restored.”

Borno State is the hotbed of the dreaded Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram which has staged a series of bombing in northeastern Nigeria in the past few weeks.

The 81 division of the Nigerian Army said it arrested 37 suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Lagos and Ogun states within the last 15 months.

Isidore Edet, former general officer commanding (GOC) of the division, disclosed this in Lagos in November while handing over to Ebenezer Oyefolu, his successor.
