A mix of seasoned actors and industry newcomers grace the cover of Vanity Fair’s 20th annual Hollywood issue. The three-panel foldout boasts Oscar nominees Julia Roberts (“August: Osage County”), Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club”), Lupita Nyong’o and Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”), as well as George Clooney (“Gravity”), Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), Michael B. Jordan (“Fruitvale Station”), Brie Larson (“Short Term 12”), Chadwick Boseman (“42”), Lea Seydoux (“Blue is the Warmest Color”), and Idris Elba and Naomi Harris (“Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”).
2014’s Hollywood issue is also notably more diverse than previous years. This year’s cover features six black actors, compared to last year’s cover photo of Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone and Ben Affleck.
Shot by famed celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz, the cover photo has a crisp, Old Hollywood aesthetic — women in flowing gowns and men in polished black suits. Julia Roberts breaks the female mold, however, wearing a black blazer and fishnets, happily perched on Elba’s lap. (Channeling Erin Brockovich for another Oscar win, perhaps?)
This issue of Vanity Fair will be available in New York and Los Angeles, as well as on the iPhone, iPad, Nook and Kindle on Feb. 7. Look for it on national newsstands and in audio form on Feb. 11.
