An 18-year-old student committed suicide after he was humiliated in front of the whole school for cheating during a test.
Charlie Brown, who was a student of the Welkom High School, in South Africa, could not bear the shame after he was made to apologize to the whole school.
Brown’s mother, Linda Sekhosana, 45, said that her son was going to be transferred to a new school for the coming year.
According to South Africa’s local media, Sekhosana revealed that she was shocked to see her son hanging in the garage of their home on a fateful Saturday.
She said, “He asked to be transferred to the new school immediately. I did not realize there was a problem at school because I was not notified of the incident.
“His friend then told us Charlie had become a laughing stock at school after he was forced to apologise for cheating.”
Brown’s 44-year-old stepfather, Thakamane Sekhosana said the principal was unprofessional.
He said, “It’s written in the school rules that a pupil should go through a disciplinary process or be given zero for cheating.”
Education department spokesman, Howard Ndaba, said they were aware of the incident.
She said, “We are waiting for a report from the district office. As soon as we get it, we will let you know.”
Sergeant Mamello Mokhuoane said: “An inquest was opened but no foul play is suspected.
“A post mortem will be done.”
A memorial service was held in his honour in the school.
