‘I am still a member of LP’ – Governor Mimiko Denies Decamping To PDP

Must read

National leader of the Labour Party (LP) and governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 debunked reports that he had decamped from the LP to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reiterating his allegiance to the LP, after he was questioned on the matter by journalists at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party held in Abuja.

In his words; “I don’t react to rumours.  I have not quit the LP. I am still a member of the party,”

His affirmation was confirmed by the national chairman of the party, Dan Nwanyanwu who said: “As I am talking to you, the governor of Ondo State is here with us at the meeting and as far as I am concerned, Mimiko is still a member of LP. All other talks about defections are nothing but mere rumours and we do not dwell on such. Governor has not announced that he is leaving the party and i did not say that I am joining him. I am still in the LP and I will lead my party to the next convention in October,”

He however did not rule out the possibility of such, describing politics as dynamic, adding that he has decided to step down from his position in order for a new leadership to come in at the next national convention of the party on Saturday, October 4, 2014

“This game is very dynamic, politics is very dynamic and changes can come any time, but for now, we believe that there is a lot to be done to lift the party to greater heights and all efforts will channel towards that direction,“ he said.

While explaining the outcome of the NEC meeting, Nwanyanwu said after its deliberations on issues, the party approved that its next convention, which will feature the election of new national executive of the party would be hosted in Akure.

The meeting was also used as a platform to reappraise the partnership between the party, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) with NLC vice-president, Mr. Isah Aremu and former TUC President, Mr. Peter Essele in attendance.
