[pull_quote_center]”For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.” II Corinthians 2:17 NKJV[/pull_quote_center]
The New Living Translation says, “You see, we are not like the many hucksters who preach for personal profit. We preach the word of God with sincerity and with Christ’s authority, knowing that God is watching us.”
It’s true, you know; there are so many people today preaching the gospel for personal profit. Their goal is just to make money; they are businessmen and not pastors; what they are interested in is how much money they make from a service; when they pray for you, they charge you; it’s all about the money and nothing else.
Apart from money, the Bible also talks about some other wrong reasons why people preach: Philippians 1:15-17 says, “Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill: the former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.”
There’s only one acceptable way to preach the gospel; with sincerity, rightly dividing the word of truth.
