1 Peter 1:14 KJV “As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance”
In Bible days, when a person believed the gospel it was said that he or she was obedient to the faith. For instance, Acts 6:7 says, “And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.” Paul said to the Romans, “For your obedience is come abroad unto all men.” Romans 16:19. And Romans 15:18 talks about making the Gentiles obedient.
This obedience is the work of the Holy Spirit. Ezekiel 36:26-27 says “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.” Hallelujah!
Having obeyed, and being obedient, you’ve got to stay obedient. That’s what Peter was saying; that we shouldn’t do those things that we did in ignorance before we believed. There’s power in obedience. 2 Corinthians 10:4-6 says “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”
