It took Solomon seven years to build a magnificent temple for God, and after its dedication, God appeared to Solomon and promised to destroy it in such a way that people worldwide would wonder why, if they turned away from Him.
The disciples were impressed with the beauty and magnificence of the temple, and probably expected Jesus to be equally excited about it, but Jesus quickly said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”
Buildings are good, and yes, they glorify God, but we must never forget that we are the true buildings that God delights in.
We are a spiritual house. 1 Peter 2:5 says, “You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
Our lives should be beautiful and comfortable for God to dwell in – a pure and holy sanctuary.
