When you give to the poor, it’s a transaction done directly with God! It’s you and God exchanging money: look beyond the poor and needy person; they can’t repay you anyway; when you give, give to the Lord!
That’s not all. When you give to the poor and needy, the reward is much more than money. Psalm 41:1-3 says, “Blessed is he who considers the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, and he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.” That’s five blessings, in addition to the financial reward that God will give to you! That’s awesome!
Identify ministries and organisations that are truly helping the poor and partner with them. Some of you may not have poor people around you because of where you live and work, but it doesn’t mean they don’t exist. 22,000 children die every day due to poverty, not to talk about those who can’t go to school or receive good education. We must do our very best to help the poor around us; not just because we want God to bless us, but because we are agents of God’s love here on earth. We’ll be blessed as we do. Amen.
