Messages are powerful when believed. What you believe is either edifying you, that is building you up, or destroying you. Paul said to the Ephesians, “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” Acts 20:32
Just as the word of God builds up, there are cancerous messages that overthrow the faith. Hymenaeus and Philetus were teaching a false message, saying that the resurrection was already past; and through that they overthrew the faith of some.
Some cancers spread to other parts of the body and destroy body tissues. That’s how messages spread. So just because several people are teaching a doctrine doesn’t validate it: it could just be a cancerous message that’s spreading and causing havoc in the body of Christ. One of the worse things that can happen to a Christian, is to think that you are still in faith, and not know that you have been overthrown from it through erroneous beliefs. It will never be our portion, in Jesus name. Amen.
