Spirit And Life Devotional: Why Did Abraham Tithe?

Must read

There are very important questions that we must ask ourselves as we study the Bible. Asking the wrong questions will lead us to the wrong conclusions, and asking the right questions will lead us to the right conclusions.

One question that I’ve asked myself is why Cain and Abel gave God firstfruit offerings. They were the first set of people on earth, so who taught them if not God? And why was it necessary for them to give it to God? Something to think about. No conclusions; just asking.

Abraham owned the spoils by virtue of the fact that he was the one who defeated the enemies. He only chose not to keep the spoils for himself. When David recovered what was taken from him and his men from the Amalekites, they said, “This is David’s spoil.” 1 Samuel 30:20.

Abraham was not compelled to tithe, but from the story, it’s obvious that he knew it was expected of him. I’m not making any conclusions for you, just asking; Why did Abraham tithe?
