Spirit and Life Devotional is a daily publication by Pastor Chinaemerem Ibezim, senior pastor of Able Ministers Chapel, a church based in Calabar, Cross River State.
So John’s disciples came to him and said, ‘Rabbi, the man you met on the other side of the Jordan River, the one you identified as the Messiah, is also baptizing people. And everybody is going to him instead of coming to us.’” – John 3:26 NLT
Sometimes we take our eyes off of our assignment, our lives, ministries and our businesses, and begin to compare ourselves with others. We become worried that we are not succeeding as much as they are doing; we become envious and jealous.
When John’s disciples informed him that Jesus was doing the same “business”, and of how successful He was, to the extent that they were losing their followers to Jesus, he replied, “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven. You yourselves know how plainly I told you, ‘I am not the Messiah. I am only here to prepare the way for him.’ Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.”
Wow! Instead of being bothered that Jesus was doing better than him, John rejoiced for His success, and even wished Him more success!
No need to compete with anyone in this journey of life: run your own race; focus on your own life; trust in God to make things beautiful for you; rejoice with others; encourage others to be better and to succeed; be yourself and don’t try to be someone else.
Have a blessed day!
