Spirit And Life Devotional: The Power Of Humility

Must read

Spirit and Life Devotional is a daily publication by Pastor Chinaemerem Ibezim, senior pastor of Able Ministers Chapel, a church based in Calabar, Cross River State.

[pull_quote_center]”Now when the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, saying, ‘They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance. My wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.” – II Chronicles 12:7[/pull_quote_center]

Israel forsook God so He let Shishak king of Egypt come against them. But just as Shishak got to Jerusalem, Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah, who were gathered together in Jerusalem and said to them, “Thus says the Lord: ‘You have forsaken Me, and therefore I also have left you in the hand of Shishak.’” As soon as they heard that, the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, “The Lord is righteous.”

Just because they humbled themselves God did not allow them to be destroyed. That’s the power of humility. Even Ahab, as wicked as he was, escaped judgement after killing Naboth and taking his vineyard. God said to Elijah, “See how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the calamity in his days. In the days of his son I will bring the calamity on his house.” I Kings 21:29

We must learn to humble ourselves before God always. Amen.
