[pull_quote_center]Proverbs 13:13: “Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.”[/pull_quote_center]
Despising the word of God is reproaching God (to mock, disdain, and to look down on Him). Despising God’s word is a great insult to God.
We despise His word when we willingly disobey it and disregard it. The penalty for that in the Old Testament was death. Numbers 15:30-31 says, “But the soul that doeth presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the Lord; and the soul shall be cut off from among his people. Because he has despised the word of the Lord, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.”
Hebrews 10:26-31 and Hebrews 12:25-29 warns against doing so today, and promises more severe punishment in the New Testamnet than what they suffered under the Old Testament. Grace isn’t a licence to despise the word and do whatever we like; we must honour God by being obedient always. Amen.
