But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7 NKJV
A lot of us spend so much time and resources on our outward appearance trying to look good, but we pay little or no attention to our inward man. It’s a case of misplaced priorities. We should spend more on our inward man because that’s what truly matters.
And that’s what Apostle Peter tried to communicate to the women when he wrote, “Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.” 1 Peter 3:3-4. You see what’s precious in the sight of God? The state of our hearts.
How beautiful is your inward man? What kind of thoughts does your heart think? What words proceed from your heart? What actions do you take? And we need to start making decisions based on people’s character and attitudes rather than their looks! Eliab was good looking, but God rejected him. We will never be rejected in Jesus name. Amen!
