“Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Because you have prayed to Me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard.’” – 2 Kings 19:20 NKJV
Hezekiah was threatened by a very powerful king who he knew that he couldn’t confront; that king, Sennacherib had defeated several other nations more powerful than Judah. Even if they wanted to defend themselves, there weren’t enough men to do that. Hezekiah must have felt so helpless. Sennacherib even had the audacity to write to him saying, “Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, ‘Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”
A psalm of David says, “Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy.” Psalm 61:1-3. That’s exactly what Hezekiah did; He went to the Rock in prayer. He took the letter that Sennacherib wrote to him, spread it before the Lord and prayed. Shortly after, God sent him a message through Isaiah saying, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Because you have prayed to Me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard.”
That’s reassuring! God’s promise to us is that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And the Bible says that if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. Hallelujah! If you have prayed, know today that God has heard you, and that He’s already doing something about your requests. Amen! Hallelujah!
