Spirit And Life Devotional: Relying On His Mercy

Must read

[pull_quote_center]”So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.” Romans 9:16 NKJV[/pull_quote_center]

Jesus spoke a parable of a rich fool: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’”

Here’s the point: the rich man relied on his own will and ability instead of the grace and mercy of God. He had the ability to do all he said quite alright, but he didn’t have power over every other factor, including his life.

That you are able to do something doesn’t mean that you should rely solely on your wisdom, connection and ability; that would be foolishness! Not everything is within your control; not everything happens the way we expect it to happen; we must therefore always rely on God for His grace and mercy.
