South Africa on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 threaten to withdraw from the International Criminal Court following raised eyebrow by the international community over the country’s refusal to arrest Sudanese president Omar Al Bashir.
According to reports, the South African parliament debated the issue. The ANC accused the US of losing credibility and failing to place themselves under control of “Hague-based” organization.
The ANC which is the ruling party in the country argued that Mr Bashir was attending a meeting of the AU and therefore was entitled to immunity, in the same way heads of state received immunity from arrest in the United States when they attended the United Nations general assembly.
The parliament called for the arrest of former US president George Bush and former British prime minister Tony Blair for war crimes over Iraq, and that leaders of Israel, who also has not joined the ICC, should be prosecuted for offences against the Palestinians.
Bashir was indicted in 2009 for alleged abuses of the western Sudanese region of Darfur has evaded justice since then.
The conflict broke-out in 2003 when insurgent rose up against his Arab-dominated government.
