[dropcap]I[/dropcap] have written in the past few weeks about not really having any sympathy for Senator Bukola Saraki over his travails with his party and the Tribunal.
My opinion still subsists.
Today, the Appeal Court ruled that he must stand trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. He has a case to answer.
In a bid to please some people, Saraki rode roughshod over opposition of some Ministerial Nominees, even when it was clear some of the voice votes had resounding ‘Nays’. He wanted to fulfill his part of whatever bargains he had made possibly.
With the undiplomatic handling of the confirmation of Rotimi Amaechi as a Minister yesterday, which drew the ire of the PDP Senators over the extant due processes to be followed, Saraki made himself a lone ranger. The PDP Senate Caucus may not be fully behind him as before ( though with politicians you never can tell)
I had a light lunch with a top General in the Army with a group of friends last week and concerning Saraki’s case, he said ; ‘He’s going. If he doesn’t do the right thing and beg for a political solution, he’s gone. Look, you guys just scream out there but you don’t know the power of the government. You can’t fight the government. When the government has a case against you, especially a political case, there’s no force on earth that can stop the government if it wants to embarrass you, not to talk of jailing you.”
I took something from that statement, not as if I hadn’t known before then.
Saraki is a cat with nine lives. Yesterday, he lost the seventh. Today, at the Appeal Court, he lost the eighth.
