#SoundOff: Diezani Alison-Madueke, ‘£13 billion Is Hard To Hyde’, And (Il)literacy

Must read

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]t the appropriate time, when the case unfolds in the UK and when one has credible analytics from inside sources, one would intensely comment on this.

But here’s one soundbite; I absolutely agree that if she is found wanting in cases against her according to the judicial laws, tested and proven, she should face the music. Got that? Ok.

The other thing which amuses me has to do with a misquote and perhaps deliberate distortion of a report by The Sun UK of today by Nigerian sites and facebook ‘(il)literates’.

I read the snide report by The Sun UK which says ‘£13 billion is hard to Hyde’. That report as with the headline was a classic British pun and wit. It alludes to the allegation that $20 billion (which is £13 billion in pounds) is part of the forensic audit being carried out by the Nigerian Government on the NNPC.

It didn’t in anyway say Diezani stole £13 billion. It only refers to the money laundering case against her as being one in which she was trying to buy a house in Hyde Park as alleged by the accusers.

Culled from The Scoop

Typical of many Nigerians, what is being passed round without any indepth investigation of the source is that Diezani was trying to buy the whole Hyde Park with £13 billion! And people would swallow this hook, line and sinker?

This is not about if she is guilty or not, this is about the level of education people have and think they have when they cannot even understand common pun! Very sad.

I really dey tire for some of una at times…
