#SoundOff: Beyond Biafra – The Million Dollar Question On The Political Future Of Igbos

Must read

by Chinedu Nwosu

Can the Igbo show other Nigerians for once that they too can withstand the pressure of being in the opposition for a while?

Can the Igbo demonstrate capacity and capability now by working with South-South, the North, and other Nigerians to rebuild the PDP to get power back in 2019?

Lets face it!

The Igbos and South-South are not the only people who voted almost exclusively for their preferred candidate in the March 2015 elections, most of the North (West and East) did the same and the difference is that the North paid off.

We need to get off our differences and realize that the Igbos and South-South felt like supporting President Jonathan was the best for them and they should be respected for that.

The North East and North West felt President Buhari was better and they voted. The North Central and South West was actually torn between both. That’s the simple truth.

To be in the opposition requires a lot of things, one of them is self respect, the ability not to be compromised even if the proverbial carrot is dangled in front of you,you must have a good reputation, have to be accepted and respected by not just your peers, but also the opposition, and must importantly must not be a “sale out”.

When APC won, some of the first set of people to defect from PDP were from the East.

It is this hungry man’s mentality that is killing the Igbos, it got so bad that Oyegun, the APC Chairman had to tell them to go away and not come near APC.

Tinubu and his likes in the West, are worth mentioning here.

Tinubu is a known former drug deal, rumours swirl on the Internet that he is also an addict, but this man cut his teeth in the days of NADECO, giving the regime of Sani Abacha serious problems. When the likes of Daniel Kan u(an Easterner )was busy eating from the crumbs of the dictator and cheering the dictator to transit to a civilian president… And where is that rogue today?

Tinubu was the last man standing, in opposition against Obasanjo. That singular act, transformed his story to those said around bedtime tales.

In all of this, where was the opposition bloc from the South East? Non-existent.

Truth is – the Igbos have always wanted to stick to where the BREAD is well BUTTERED. And strangely, have always had LUCK getting it right every time.

Now the question is:

Who will lead the opposition in the South East? Does he come to the table with “clean hands”? I challenged my friends on social media to present one name. I got none who fits the mold of a resilient, long-suffering, charismatic leader who can galvinise a strong followership.

My humble submission is that the Igbos should work with other PDP leaders across Nigeria to start strategizing to reposition, rebrand, and rebuild the PDP.

This is the way to political rebirth and redemption.

Biafra is not yet a viable option Nigeria must be taken first.

God bless Nigeria.
God bless the New PDP.
