Arzika Tureta, the Commissioner for Agriculture in Sokoto, has passed away.
Tureta, 62, died Monday morning after a protracted illness.
The government official had been on admission at the Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital, UDUS.
He represented Tureta Local Government Area in the Sokoto State House of Assembly and later Bodinga/DangeShuni/Tureta Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
Tureta was a Commissioner during the Aliyu Wamakko’s administration and was re-appointed by Governor Aminu Tambuwal.
Wamakko, the Senate Committee Chairman on Defence, said he was in shock.
In a statement by his spokesman, Bashir Mani, the lawmaker recalled that the deceased served under him in the Ministries of Education, Water Resources, and Agriculture.
Wamakko noted that Tureta made tremendous contributions to the state and would be well remembered.
The Senator representing Sokoto North expressed his condolences to the family, the people, and the state government.
Wamakko prayed to Allah to grant Tureta Aljannat Firdaus and give all mourners the fortitude to bear the loss.
