LOS ANGELES, USA – After seven years of marriage, Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello have decided to separate, confirmed by sources close to the couple.
In a statement to Page Six, on Monday, July 17, 2023 the couple stated, “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
News of the separation emerged soon after the ‘Modern Family’ star was seen celebrating her 51st birthday with friends in Italy, noticeably without Manganiello, 46, and without her wedding ring.
While the ‘True Blood’ actor wasn’t present at the celebration, he took to Instagram to share a birthday tribute to his now-estranged wife. “¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!” he wrote, alongside a photo of the pair from one of Vergara’s past birthdays.
The couple married in Palm Beach, Florida, in November 2015.
For their seventh anniversary in 2022, Vergara, an Emmy winner, posted a series of throwback pictures from their wedding day on Instagram.
This included images of them exchanging vows and dancing at their reception, captioning the post with a simple “Love U” followed by a series of red heart emojis.
Back in August 2020, Manganiello opened up to PEOPLE about his relationship with Vergara. “I knew pretty quickly that I could trust her, and she knew pretty quickly that she could trust me,” he said, reflecting on their relationship in light of their then-upcoming five-year anniversary.
The actor further shared, “We’re both the kind of people who are capable of putting the other person ahead of ourselves. I was capable of putting her wishes ahead of mine, whatever they were, and she was capable of doing the same. Once you have that, you don’t let go of it.”
He concluded by saying, “My instincts about her were right.”
As they move forward into this new chapter of their lives, the couple has requested respect for their privacy.
