MONROVIA, Liberia — A pregnant woman in Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia, has shared a chilling account of waking up to a mysterious, bloody handprint on her stomach after what she described as a supernatural encounter in a dream.
In a video interview with Liberian journalist Donso Sheriff, the woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, recounted the terrifying nightmare she experienced three nights ago.
A Dream Turned Nightmare
“I was asleep when I felt something heavy pressing down on me. It was like I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe,” she said.
She described seeing a shadowy woman, whose face was unclear but who seemed to be reaching for her unborn child. Overcome with fear and instinct, she reacted.
“In that moment, pure instinct took over. I slapped her,” she said.
When she awoke, she felt a burning sensation on her stomach.
“When I opened my eyes, my stomach was burning. When I looked down, there was a red handprint on my belly… and it was bleeding,” she said.
Medical Mystery Sparks Spiritual Concerns
Her family rushed her to a hospital, but medical practitioners have yet to provide a scientific explanation for the unexplained handprint and bleeding.
As word of the incident spread, residents of Grand Cape Mount County concluded that the event was a spiritual attack, rather than a medical anomaly.
A local elder, known for his knowledge of traditional beliefs, shared his perspective.
“This is not the first time something like this has happened. When a woman is with child, she is at her most vulnerable. Spirits, especially envious ones, seek to harm the unborn. She fought back, and the spirit left its mark,” he said.
Spiritual Healer Called to Protect the Mother and Child
Fearing another attack, the woman’s family sought help from a respected spiritual healer, who performed a cleansing ritual at their home.
The healer burned incense, recited protective incantations, and offered prayers over the woman.
“The spirit was not just passing by,” the healer warned. “It wanted something. If she had not fought back, things could have been much worse.”
Living in Fear
Despite the rituals and prayers, the woman remains deeply shaken.
She now sleeps with protective charms around her bed and refuses to be alone after dark.
While doctors and scientists search for explanations, the community remains convinced that the supernatural was at play—a belief deeply rooted in the region’s cultural and spiritual traditions.
