Outgoing Governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Yero, formally handed over notes from his administration to the incoming governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai who said that the situation on ground wasn’t as he had expected.
Governor-elect El-Rufai, after listening to the condition of the state as documented in the committee reports, said that the situation is not as bad as he thought it would be but his transition team would still have to peruse the handover notes.
According to Governor Yero, who spoke at the handover which took place at the Sir Kashim Imam Governmnet House on Wednesday, May 28, 2015, the state had a debt profile of N73 billion as at May 21, 2015.
He also said that there was a balance of N8 billion in the state treasury and that the debt consisted of N46 billion from local government sources, N2 billion internal bonds and N23 billion as pending money to be paid to contractors in the state.
He said that state was not owing its workers any salary.
Incoming Governor El-Rufai enjoined the outgoing Governor Yero to pray for him and support his administration to succeed.
“The situation is not as bad as we thought. Pray for us and give us your support so that we can succeed in bringing development to the state,” he said.
