Sit-at-Home: Enugu’s Governor Mbah Vows to Drag Simon Ekpa to Int’l Criminal Court

Must read

ENUGU, Nigeria – The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has stated that his administration is considering the possibility of taking Simon Ekpa, the breakaway leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the instigators of the illegal sit-at-home order in the state before the International Criminal Court, ICC, in The Hague, Netherlands.

The governor, while addressing journalists at the Government House, Enugu, on Sunday, July 9, 2023, insisted that the state was winning the war against sit-at-home enforcers, whom he described as “murderers and enemies of Igbo land”.

He urged the residents of Enugu to disregard the dictates of these individuals, who he accused of hiding behind the name of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to carry out criminal activities. Governor Mbah pointed out that Kanu himself had disavowed the enforcement of the sit-at-home order and its negative impact on Igbo land.

“In the 21st Century, nobody should be allowed to stay in one part of the world to enjoy life while causing deaths and pains in other parts,” said Governor Mbah.

He suggested that the so-called sit-at-home enforcers were not genuinely advocating for Kanu’s freedom but were simply criminals that the public should confront directly.

“As media people, it is important you educate our people for them to know that these sit-at-home enforcers are not after Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s welfare or freedom. We must be able to separate the two,” he stated.

While acknowledging that the Igbos are united in their demand for Kanu’s release, and that he had engaged the President over the matter, Governor Mbah stressed that there was no room for Enugu to bow to the dictates of “murderers and terrorists”.

He concluded with a rallying call for the state to face the threat head-on. “We must not allow those without our mandate tell us how to live our lives. We have a duty to ensure that we flush them out in all directions. They have no stake in the affairs of our state.”

With this announcement, Governor Mbah makes a strong stand against the violence and disruptions caused by the illegal sit-at-home order, insisting on pursuing those responsible and holding them accountable in the international arena.
