NAN – Sierra Leonean President, Ernest Koroma, said on Thursday that authorities would soon start laying off workers recruited to fight Ebola as the number of cases continue to decline.
He said in Freetown while addressing a town hall meeting that in the process of scaling down facilities, where possible affected workers would be employed elsewhere.
“Government is working towards providing employment and absorbing some of you into the service as soon as possible.
“This is because you have all done a good job; because you have also gained valuable knowledge and skills that are forever now required in this country,” he said.
The appreciated those that would be affected in the lay off for their brave national service to the country and called for continued vigilance.
He said in spite of an overall trend showing the disease was coming under control, UN figures released on Wednesday showed 82 new cases in the region during the week to March 29.
Koroma said the payment of 100 dollars per week hazard to staff had been stopped.
