SHOCKING: 2 Mortuary Attendants Steal Jewellery Worth N4 Million From Corpse

This is terribly sad and a double insult to injury but it is shocking to hear that people can actually rob the dead.

Two mortuary attendants, Osaro Benjamin (50) and Idowu Eriemator (26) have been arraigned before an Evboriaria Chief Magistrates Court for stealing jewellries worth N4 million from a dead woman.

The suspects were employed at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital where the crime was committed.

Police Prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Obakpolor, told the court that the jewellries were in the casket of the deceased woman identified as Mrs. Esther Akora.

Obakpolor listed the items to include ear-rings, necklace, and wedding ring, adding that the offence was committed on May 12.

The accused persons were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The offences, according to the police prosecutor, contravened the provisions of sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code.

However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate, Mr. Frank Idiake, granted bail to the two accused persons in the sum of N500, 000 each with a surety each in like sum.
