An upper Sharia court sitting at Sabon Gariin Kano has on Friday, October 24, 2014, ordered a middle-aged man identified as Abdullahi Ahmad who divorced his wife after infecting her with the deadly HIV/AIDS to re-marry her.
It was learnt that in a bid to get justice, Ahmad’s ex-wife, Umma Usman, had reported to the court that her husband had sent her packing from her matrimonial home after infecting her with HIV/AIDS.
During the session in court, Ahmad’s ex-wife disclosed that they have been married for about 13 years and blessed with several children before the incident .
It was also alleged that Ahmad who knew that he had transferred the disease to Usman gave her a divorce letter afterwards.
She pleaded with the court to nullify the divorce letter and order Ahmad to re-marry her since he infected her with the dreaded virus while they were legally married.
In his verdict, the judge, Malam Farouk Ahmad, granted the complainant’s plea, canceled the divorce letter issued to her by the husband and ordered him to immediately re-marry her and cater very well for her.
The judge said, that under Islamic Sharia Law, “it is binding on the husband to stay with the woman for the rest of his life being the one responsible for her getting an infection that has no known cure.”
