At least seven persons were reportedly murdered during separate cult clashes in some parts of Benin City, the Edo State capital over the weekend.
Among the victims of the tragedy was a popular car wash operator while two others were reportedly killed in a separate clash in the Okhoro area of the state.
The four other victims were said to have been killed in one Erediauwa Street, Off Upper Sokponba road and New Benin, following a similar clash between some cult members.
Although details on the cause of the fracas were sketchy as of the time of filing this report, it was said that the clashes might not be unconnected with three rival cult groups, as one had earlier engaged the other at Upper Sakponba, Punch reports.
The Edo Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joseph Edogiawerie, who confirmed the deaths said another person was shot in a separate location and had been taken to a hospital.
He disclosed that men of the police force have started investigations int the matter which has led to the arrest of several suspected persons, adding that residnts should rest assured that their lives and property are secured both during and after the Christmas festivities.
