PALM BEACH, USA – Alexis Ohanian, entrepreneur and husband of tennis legend Serena Williams, revealed he underwent surgery to remove half of his thyroid after years of monitoring nodules that showed signs of turning cancerous.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, November 28, 2024, the Reddit co-founder shared a photo of himself post-surgery in a hospital bed and detailed the journey that led to the preventive operation.
“The nodules were getting bigger, and the latest biopsy revealed they’d very likely turn cancerous,” the 41-year-old wrote.
“My mom had breast cancer around this age and then ultimately died from brain cancer a decade or so later. I hate cancer.”
Health Vigilance and Family Focus
Ohanian explained that he had been tracking the nodules for four years before deciding to act.
After the surgery, doctors confirmed the removed portion of his thyroid was “full of some gnarly nodules.”
He highlighted the importance of proactive health care, particularly for fathers.
“To my fellow men—make those doctor’s appointments—especially if y’all are dads,” he urged.
Despite the health scare, Ohanian took time to create joyful moments with his daughters, Olympia, 7, and Adira, 15 months, sharing that he took them to Disneyland for Thanksgiving.

Ongoing Health Battles
This is not the first time Ohanian has faced a serious health issue.
In July, he revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease following a comprehensive health screening.
“Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat,” he wrote, emphasising the importance of regular health checks.
He also noted cholesterol issues, vowing to make improvements while highlighting his high testosterone levels.
Lyme disease, a bacterial infection transmitted through tick bites, can cause long-term complications if untreated.
A Call to Action for Men
Ohanian’s health journey is a reminder of the critical importance of early detection and preventive care.
By sharing his story, he hopes to inspire others to take their health seriously, especially those balancing the responsibilities of fatherhood.
“Happy Thanksgiving, everyone,” he concluded, encouraging others to embrace health and family during the holiday season.
