Senator Ned Nwoko Vows to Push Anioma State Creation Despite Governor Oborevwori’s Opposition

OGWASHI-UKU, Nigeria – Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has pledged to press ahead with efforts to create Anioma State, despite resistance from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Speaking on Thursday, April 10, 2025, in Ogwashi-Uku, Oshimili North local government area, during an event hosted by the APC Women Support Group in collaboration with Rita Daniels Single Parenthood, Girl Child Initiative, and Regina Daniel’s Charity and Development Foundation, Nwoko expressed his determination to overcome the governor’s opposition.

Nwoko revealed that Governor Oborevwori had explicitly told him he would not support the creation of Anioma State, but he remained resolute in his belief that the state would eventually come into existence.

“Nothing will stop the creation of Anioma State. Governor Oborevwori’s aides are all anti-Anioma and are afraid to see another state created for their selfish interests,” Nwoko asserted.

The call for the creation of Anioma State, which has been a long-standing demand by the Anioma people in Delta North, has gained momentum in recent years.

According to Nwoko, the proposal is now at a public hearing stage after passing the second reading in the Senate.

He added that once it is approved by the Senate, it will move to the President for assent.

Nwoko further criticized past leaders, including Senator Osakwe, Nwaoboshi, and Governor Okowa, for being hesitant to support the creation of the state due to fears of resource redistribution.

He emphasized the economic and political advantages of state creation, such as having two governors, two deputies, more lawmakers, and increased development.

“The only party that will make it happen is APC. If there is anybody in other political parties, it is because of their stomach, not the interest of the Anioma people,” Nwoko said.

Explaining why he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nwoko stated that after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on January 1, 2025, and subsequent discussions with APC leaders, it became clear that the creation of Anioma State could only be achieved with APC’s backing.

“I want it to be their project. All APCs on the committee support the creation of the Anioma State,” he confirmed.

Nwoko further suggested that Governor Oborevwori’s political maneuvering, including his efforts to join the APC, is a reflection of the shifting political landscape in Delta State.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is doing everything possible to join the APC. The APC is a good party, and if he comes, there will be competition. So, everybody should join the APC now to position themselves because the next Governor, Senators, Reps, and Assembly members will join the APC in Delta State,” Nwoko assured his supporters.
