Ahead the February 14 general elections, Senate President, David Mark, have stated that 85 percent from the total votes in Benue is assured for People’s Democratic Party, PDP’s President Goodluck Jonathan.
Speaking ahead of the party’s presidential campaign rally on Thursday, January 22, 2015 in Makurdi, the state capital, Mark had stated that his people shall not compromise their vote and will only vote for PDP.
The Senate President and the Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswan, while the flag off of Mark’s 2015 senatorial bid at Och’Idoma’s Palace Square in Otukpo, reiterated that there shall be no violence in the state during and after the elections.
Mark commended the incumbent government for the provision of dividends of democracy to the people of Benue State as a means that will guarantee a resounding victory for the party.
He added that the state PDP had sustained a formidable party structure and has maintained its victory since the fourth republic was ushered into play in 1999.
“Given another opportunity, the PDP-led government would advance on its service delivery to the citizenry and make Nigeria much better,” he stated.
Speaking in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, Mark implored that the people of the state should come out in large numbers to meet with President Jonathan to the state and show their full support for PDP just as he advocated for peaceful conduct of all the elections.
Senator Mark articulated that PDP remains the only existing wheel that can drive towards the dividends of democracy to the citizenry and not what he described as the “fringe parties or others with ideologies far from peace, unity and development.”
He stated; “We need to remain steadfast with the PDP. We need to consolidate on the foundations already laid. My mission and purpose is the welfare of our people.
“We want a greater Benue. We want a United, peaceful and Progressive Nigeria. This is my dream,” he stated.
Mark also itemized the projects that were executed by the ruling PDP, such as the establishment of university in his constituency, the Loko/Oweto bridge project , the multi-billion Naira Otobi water Dam, and youth empowerment.
