‘It’s Totally Unacceptable’ – Senate President, Bukola Saraki Condemns Election Violence In Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State governorship elections has come and gone but not without recording violence by desperate party members which left about 14 persons dead and others injured.

The supplementary elections held in Southern Ijaw on Saturday, January 9, 2016.

Governor Serieke Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was returned for second term after beating his closest rival, Deipriye Sylva of the All Progreeice Congress (APC).

Following the reports of violence witnessed in the just concluded elections, Senate President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki on Sunday released a statement condemning the violence. He also said that the perpetrators must be brought to book.

Senator Sakari said: “Reports of Violence that trailed Supplementary Election in Southern Ijaw Bayelsa State is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

“Regardless of what political party we belong, we must collectively denounce the violence that has ensued during and after the ballot process, and to the young men and women out there, please remember your blood and life is worth more than any political ambition.

“I commiserate with those who have lost a loved one and I call on security agents to do everything to bring the perpetrators to face the law.”
