Senate Confirms Shekarau, 3 Others As New Ministers

The Senate on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 confirmed former Kano State governor Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and former national vice chairman of the South-South Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Stephen Oru (Delta) as substantive ministers of Nigeria.

Also confirmed by the upper chamber are Abdu Bulama from Yobe State and Adedayo Adeyeye from Ekiti State.

These four were nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan in June to fill the ministerial slots of their respective states.

After fielding series of topical questions on a wide range of issues from the lawmakers, they were confirmed to serve in the capacity of ministers.

Shekarau, who is the most popular of the nominees, defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the PDP in April. Shekarau is being touted to be the next education minister due to his background in education

Shekarau is seen to be President Jonathan man in checking the influence of Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso in Kano while answering question on the way out for Nigeria on the unemployment problem, said the issue of skills acquisition for Nigerian students at the first three years of Secondary education as envisioned in the 6-3-3-4 curriculum should be revisited by government and effectively implemented.
