The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of an economist, Kingsley Obiora as a deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
During a plenary session on Thursday, January 30, 2020, the legislative body confirmed Obiora’s appointment.
President Muhammadu Buhari earlier in the month forwarded his name to the Senate for confirmation.
Ahmad Lawan, the president of the Senate, read the letter from President Buhari which said that his nomination was in accordance with the provision of Section 8(1) (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2007.
Obiora, is set to replace Joseph Nnanna, who retires on February 2, 2020.
The incoming deputy governor of the Central Bank is an economist who has worked with the World Bank and has played the role of a consultant to the bank for years.
