The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF) for their gallantry which has seen them record several successful operations in their counter-insurgency campaign.
Senator Maina Ma’aji Lawan from Borno North raised a point of order that there was a need for the Senators to laud the Nigerian military for their recent successes which has seen them recapture swaths of land hitherto held by insurgent group, Boko Haram, adding that their efforts have brought joy to the people of the region.
He said: “We are solidly behind our troops and we are ready to cooperate with them to ensure that no part of the northeast is under Boko Haram,”
Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim representing Yobe East also lent his voice, hailing the troops for doing Nigeria proud. He also reserved praise for the combined efforts of troops from neighbouring countries (Niger, Chad and Cameroon) in curbing the advances of the terrorists.
Also commending the NAF was Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South, who said: “As a barracks boy, I’m proud of the Nigeria armed forces,”
Senate President, David Mark on his part, hailed the Nigerian military for proving that they could deliver if given the right platform.
He said: “As we commend our boys, we must encourage them to bring the insurgency in the northeast to quick conclusion.”
