Men who like to play the field will be happy to hear that new research suggests better orgasms are had when a new woman is involved.
The study, which appeared in Evolutionary Psychological Science, found that men ejaculated more, for a longer time and more quickly after ‘beginning’ when they watched a video with an unknown female in it.
The quicker part might explain that awkward ‘this never usually happens’ thing with a new partner.
To find this out, 23 men between the ages of 18 and 23, who identified as heterosexual, got their jollies on every 48 hours over the course of two weeks.
All in the noble pursuit of science of course. And the science was quite thorough:
For the first six times, the participants watched videos with the same male and female getting it on, but in different scenarios each time to keep things from getting boring.
The men’s sperm count and volume stayed pretty much the same each time.
Then on the seventh session, the guys were treated to a video with the same male actor, but a new woman was on the scene.
Everyone basically lost their minds and came quicker, harder and stronger than all the times before.
The scientists think this happens for two main reasons:
Firstly, if a woman’s been having sex with one partner for a long time it’s more likely her egg’s been fertilised. Job done.
Secondly, a new female is more likely to recently have had sex with a male partner who isn’t you. Apparently, this competition with another male gets guys off.
But it’s worth bearing in mind that the scientists weren’t suggesting that everyone should have a ton of casual sex (though by all means do if that’s what you’re in to).
Their findings mean that when looking at male infertility, watching a porn video with a new woman in it might help couples struggling to conceive have a baby.
Quite sweet really.
