A civil servant identified simply as Tunde on Thursday, June 11, 2015 collapsed and died on duty at government secretariat, Osogbo, Osun State where he worked as a night guard.

This is coming in the wake of the strike action and protest embarked upon by aggrieved pensioners in the state over the non-payment of salaries due them.

The deceased from Modakeke part of the state was attached to the Auditor-general’s office, and was said to have died due to lack of money to buy either food or drugs to manage an undisclosed sickness.

Efforts made by members of staff of Auditor-General’s office proved futile as the man already gave up the ghost.

His lifeless remains was evacuated from the office by the officials of the Nigeria Police Force and Civil Defence Corps.

This is not the first reported cased of a pensioner’s death in the state as a similar incident happened on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 when a middle-aged man died owing to lack of money to purchase drugs.

Speaking on the development, the Secretary of the Trade Union Congress in Osun State, Mrs. Tola Nosegbe, urged well-meaning Nigerians to join Christian Association of Nigeria and churches   in giving aids to workers in the state to save them from untimely death, according to Vanguard.

She challenged the government to come out clean on how it spent it’s allocation since the beginning of the year.
