Security Alert in Edo as Police Intercept Another Set of Armed Hunters From Kano

Must read

OROGBENI, Nigeria – The Edo State Police Command has announced the interception of four hunters from Kano State, who were found in possession of arms and ammunition upon their arrival in the state.

The operation, carried out by the Edo Security Network, took place on Saturday, April 12, 2025, with the suspects being apprehended in the Orogbeni area.

In a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the police sought to clarify misinformation circulating on social media regarding the nature of the incident.

The false reports suggested that four armed herdsmen had been arrested at a hotel in the state and handed over to the police.

However, the police confirmed that the individuals in question were not herdsmen, but rather hunters, who had come from Kano State.

The four suspects, identified as Yusuf Abdulkarim, Mujaheed Garba, Shittu Idris, and Jamilu Habibu, were found in possession of three Dane guns, six empty cartridges, three half-filled cartridges, four cutlasses, and two daggers.

The police explained that the suspects were heading to Uvbe community in the Orhionwon Local Government Area of Edo State, where they intended to carry out hunting activities.

Following their interception by a member of the Edo Security Network, the suspects were handed over to officers from the Ikpoba Hill Police Station.

Preliminary investigations revealed that they were indeed hunters, and not involved in any criminal activities linked to herdsmen as previously reported.

The police further urged the public to refrain from spreading misleading information that could potentially create unnecessary tension within the state.

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, called on residents to be responsible in their dissemination of news, especially when it involves sensitive security matters.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine the full circumstances surrounding the hunters’ arrival in Edo State and to assess whether any laws were violated during their transit.
