The Nigerian chief of army staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Monday, May 23, 2016, said that the army is prepared to search every nook and cranny of the Niger Delta and fish out the Niger Delta Avengers and deal decisively with them according to the law.
He said the avengers are criminals, noting that they are not avenging anything but are operating with criminal tendencies and the military would surmount all its strength to bring them down.
“Whatever these criminals [Niger Delta Avengers] are doing is a criminal act. We will deal with them accordingly,” Buratai is quoted as saying by Daily Post.
“We are looking at all the areas that we should address and we are doing that, including the criminals in the name of Niger Delta Avengers. They are not avenging anything. They are criminals,” he declares.
According to him, nobody in the country has offended them, insisting that they have an agenda that is different from what they are projecting as their objective.
He was particularly angry over the continuous murder of members of the Nigerian army, maintaining that the army will not tolerate such action of the militants.
Buratai said the army will look for them anywhere they are, saying they are committing criminal acts against the government of Nigeria and will not be allowed to continue destroying the economy of the nation.
The army boss made these declarations on Monday at the 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt, after the inauguration of soldiers’ accommodation and 500 KVA generator, donated by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, in Port harcourt.
